NARRATIVE

Texans are proud of their state and proud of their flag. The inspiration came from the many barns scattered around the Brazos region that have the Texas Flag painted on the roof of the barn. MaRS commissioned artist Thedra Cullar-Leford to put a twist on the illustrious Texas flag to create a memorable selfie moment and celebrate Texas Pride. Thedra visited many thrift stores, book stores, and antique shops across Texas to seek out books about or related to Texas in some way. The books range from Texas BBQ cookbooks, native Texas Plants, Oil to Tall Dark Billionaire Texan and even some Texas A&M textbooks. Almost every one of the 10,000 books in this installation is about the proud state of Texas.
