Inspired by cowboys’ lariats, MaRS, in collaboration with Impressions Architectural Millworkers, designed a mathematically precise woven wall consisting of 6,000 linear feet of rope. Each strand of rope was hand dipped in a diluted concoction of 40 gallons of “Texas Tea” to get achieve a weathered stain evoking to the dusty tone of a worn lariat. The ropes making up the pattern of thick and thin lines are intwined with red and blue tracer wire to touch on the colors of the adjacent Texas Flag installation. You might notice that all of the rope panels are perfectly aligned to one another, which is no small feat.
