NARRATIVE

Texas’ rich heritage and customs are celebrated in a modern and fresh way at The George, a 162-key boutique hotel in College Station, Texas. Named for numerous notable Georges associated with the area, The George is steeped in authentic Texas charm – inspired by the lifestyles of Texas farmers, ranchers, artisans and craftsmen. Many elements of the design reference the historic railroad system that gave the town its name, providing subtle continuity throughout the guest experience. The ground floor is divided into distinctly themed stations: art, craft, social and mix. Art: a flock of wandering sheep greets patrons at the door, and 10,000 books about the great state are stacked to create the state’s storied flag. Opposite the flag, 6000 linear feet of rope, dipped in Texas Sweet Tea to evoke the patinaed rope of a working cowboy, covers the wall. Craft: custom-designed retail furniture created from branded charred wood and built by Texas steel craftsmen displays Texas-made goods for sale. Social and mix: 1,200 whiskey bottles from Texas-based Yellow Rose Distillery form a custom light fixture over 1791 Whiskey Bar, which anchors several casual seating groups in a communal living room. Guestrooms designed to recall the [George] Pullman sleeper car, celebrated for its luxury and comfort, are arranged in a C-shaped building that cradles a sunken pool, harking back to the many tree-lined watering holes across Texas. Double-wide rocking chairs, painted the exact Pantone shade of red used for the Texas Flag, flank the watering hole along the back porch.
